Our garden: OUTSIDE ** Nuestro jardin: AFUERA

Our garden outside is starting to shape up! We had to clean up the tall dry weeds and then the little weeds, and prepare the soil in the beds by turning it around with a shovel [that was Nuri's job] and warm the soils with a black plastic -as you can see in the first picture, we have one of the beds being warm up, so then we can plant- and we have planted a week ago those seeds that like cool weather, actually Lua helped us during the planting, since we also had a lot of weeding to do!

Nuestro jardin afuera esta comenzando a tener forma! Tuvimos que limpiar las pajas altas que habian crecido en el otoño, y luego las hierbas malas, preparamos la tierra en lo que le llaman aqui las "camas" que sabe Dios que se llamaran en español, pero es donde se hacen los surcos... elevan la tierra para que sea mas facil trabajarla y limpiarla, y para que retenga el agua al mismo tiempo. La preparacion de la tierra estuvo en manos de Nuri, quien con la pala movio y aflojo la tierra, luego se cubre la tierra con un plastico negro para que caliente y este lista para plantar -una de nuestras "camas" esta cubierta con plastico ahora, como ven en la primera foto- y una semana atras plantamos las semillas que les gusta el friecito, y Lua vino a ayudarnos a plantar, pues habian muchas hierbas malas que limpar aun!





Here are the broccoli and the cabbage plants, some of them we were able to protect with a "green-house" like method we learned from Nuri's parents, using milk containers... they seem kind of dead, but when we went today we saw them doing great, too bad we didn't have the camara with us! :P

He aqui las plantitas de brocoli y repollo, algunas de ellas pudimos protegarlas con un metodo "invernadero" que nos enseñaron los padres de Nuri, utilizando botellas de plastico de leche... parecieran que se estan muriendo en esta foto, pero cuando fuimos hoy, las vimos super bien! lastima que no teniamos camara para sacarles foto! :P




The people who had the plot before us had strawberries and onions... we didn't really wanted onions, but we kept the strawberries! Lua cleaned up around them so you can see how lovely they are doing!

La gente que estaba en el terrenito antes de nosotros tenia frutillas y cebollas... no quisimos realmente las cebollas, pero nos quedamos con las frutillas! Lua limpio alrededor de ellas y ahora se las pueden ver muy bien!




We planted various types of lettuce, arugula, spinach, mustard, and other leaves, as well as two kind of peas, pot peas and snap peas.

Plantamos varios tipos de lechuga, espinacas, mostaza y otras plantas de lindas hojas para ensaladas, asi como dos variedades de vainitas, la normal y otra plana para comidas chinas! :D

Our garden: INSIDE ** Nuestro jardin: ADENTRO

To update you all regarding the garden, we have posted these two blogs [inside and outside]. Inside the garden is going well, we already have transplanted the first plants: broccoli and cabbage... you will see them "outside" though. Inside we are trying to take advantage of the sun as much as possible. In the mornings most of the plants come to our living room/balcony area and later in the afternoons they go to the kitchen area... and when we can't do all these swifting of places, we just leave them on the windowsills. So here are some photos of those who have taken over our appartment! (the plants :P)

Para actualizarlos en cuanto a nuestro jardin, hemos puesto estos dos blogs [adentro y afuera]. Adentro, nuestro jardin esta progresando, hemos transplantado las primeras plantitas, brocolis y repollos... ustedes los veran "afuera" ;) Adentro, estamos tratando de aprovechar el sol a lo maximo, en las mañanas movemos a la mayoria de las plantas al area del living/balcon y en las tardes las movemos a la cocina... y cuando no podemos hacer todos estos traslados, dejamos a las plantitas en las ventanas. Asi que alla van algunas fotos de aquellos que nos han quitado nuestro apartamento! (las señoras plantas :P)







Here is a picture of the canteloupes, they are the larger plants we have, we still have to wait a month for all the inside plants to go outside, at least three weeks for some of them... but for the cantaloupes is about 4 or 5 weeks!!

Esta es una foto de los meloncitos, son las plantas mas crecidas que tenemos y aun tenemos que esperar un mes mas o menos para transplantar las plantas de adentro a afuera, para algunas unas tres semanas al menos, pero para los meloncitos unas 4 o 5 semanas mas!!




These are Leila's favorite... pepper! We have planted all kind of peppers, one of them is called Chocolate Pepper, yum! can't wait for tasting that one!

Aqui estan los favoritos de Leila: pimentones! Hemos plantado de todo tipo de pimentones, uno de ellos se llama Pimenton de Chocolate, que rico!! estamos ansiosos por probar ese... ;)




Here is the dill, it is so slim and streight, looking so elegant and delicate at the same time!

Aqui esta el ... [no se el nombre en español, shevid en persa], es tan delgado y derechito, se ve tan elegante y delicado al mismo tiempo! lindo, lindo!!




Our cucumbers have just germinated today and are starting to come out of the ground!

Nuestros pepinos acaban de germinar hoy y estan comenzando a sacar sus cabecitas!!

First day of sun! :: Primer dia de sol! :)

We can't remember when was this, probably shortly after Naw Ruz [maybe three weeks ago] but we forgot to post it and it is so cute to see all the plants having some sun... as Nuri is also trying to warm up his feet!! :)

No nos acordamos cuando fue tomada esta foto, tal vez una semana despues de Naw Ruz, y nos olvidamos de ponerla en la pagina... es una foto interesante, aqui ven a todas nuestras plantitas tomando sol, al igual que las patitas de Nuri!! :P




Actually the maple trees in the parking lot are full of buds in this picture, here is a picture taken today of the flowers!! Leila loves seeing these trees every morning and is amazed by their green flowers! :)

Pueden tambien ver en esta foto los arboles de "maple" en el patio, llenos de botones y esta tomada hoy dia con las flores! A Leila le encanta ver estos arboles todas las mañanas y esta maravillada por sus flores verdes! :)

Growing :: Creciendo

Our plants are continuing growing and getting ready to go out to the real world. The days have become warmer here in Madison, and rain has started to pour over the land making it greener by every day that passes by. Soon we will start planting our seeds that need this yet cool weather, so today we are attending a workshop and learning what to do to have a very efficient and productive organic garden. We thought on also sharing the photos of our little plants at home; around the end of April we will be planting these little ones outside. You will notice how some of them are turning towards the sun, and that makes us ponder everyday how important is the light and warmth for these plants as it is for us the importance of love, knowledge and spirituality! ;)

Nuestras plantas continuan creciendo y preparandose para salir a la realidad del mundo de afuera. Los dias en Madison se estan calentando de a poco, la lluevia a comenzado a regar la tierra y todos los dias se vuelve cada vez mas verde. Pronto comenzaremos a plantar las semillas que necesitan un poco de clima frio, asi que hoy iremos a un taller y aprenderemos como tener un jardin organico* eficiente y productivo. Pensamos en compartir algunas fotos de nuestras plantitas en casa; alrededor de fines de abril las estaremos plantando afuera (pensamos en especial en nuestra abuelita Elenita!!). Se fijaran como algunas se estan volteando hacia el sol y eso nos hace meditar todos los dias en la importancia que tienen para estas plantas la luz y el calor, como importante es tambien para nosotros el amor, conocimiento y espiritualidad! ;)

* Es interesante que aqui todos quieren tener un jardin organico o comer comida organica, con eso, es interesante pensar como nosotros en Latinoamerica comemos casi todo organico y en realidad queremos usar cada vez mas productos quimicos para tener "mejores productos" cuando aqui y en Europa la gente paga a veces 5 veces el precio normal para tener algo que es sembrado, regado y producido "al natural"! ;P
